WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 6)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team earned a come from behind Presidents Athletic Conference victory at Waynesburg on Saturday night.
Saint Vincent (6-3, 2-0 PAC) trailed 71-68 with just over two minutes to go. However, the Bearcats closed the game on a 7-2 run and stopped what would have been a game-winning three pointer for Waynesburg in the closing seconds to earn the victory.
Brooke Evans was solid for the Bearcats all night as she scored 18 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting from the field. Evans also picked up two steals and grabbed a rebound as well.
Camdon Bashor was also solid for Saint Vincent as well. Bashor scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds on an efficient 6-10 shooting night from the field.
Danielle Pontius added nine points and three rebounds, while
Makenna Maier scored eight points and five rebounds.
Emerson Peffer added eight points and six rebounds for SVC, while
Olivia Yancy scored seven for SVC as well.
Freshman
Carmella McDole scored six points and grabbed five rebounds to help Saint Vincent in the victory.
As a team, the Bearcats shot an impressive 51% (30-59) from the field, including shooting 57% in the second half. SVC outrebounded the Yelllow Jackets 36-29 over the course of the victory as well.
After a back-and-forth first half, Saint Vincent trailed by two (39-37) at the halftime break. The back-and-forth play continued through the third quarter with Waynesburg holding a slight 54-53 lead going into the final quarter.
SVC and Waynesburg shifted the lead back-and-forth in the final quarter, but Saint Vincent's final 7-2 spurt was enough to earn the road victory.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Monday, December 15 with a road matchup at John Carroll. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. in University Heights, Ohio.
