CRESSON, Pa. (Feb. 11)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team swept Mount Aloysius in a road non-conference matchup in Cresson on Tuesday night.
 
Saint Vincent (4-4) wins their second consecutive match, defeating the Mounties (2-6) by set scores of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-23.
 
Shawn McSwiggen led the way for the Bearcats with 11 kills in the win. He also added five digs and two service aces in the sweep for Saint Vincent as well. 
Jackson Genicola totaled a team-high 22 assists, while 
Zebadiah Wyant recorded nine kills.
 
Genicola also added four blocks with his 22 assists, while 
Nick Sikorski totaled three blocks of his own, and 
Rocco Marino recorded two blocks. 
Kolton Butina led Saint Vincent with six digs and 
Tyler Nelson added five kills in the non-conference victory for SVC.
 
It was all Bearcats in the opening set of the night. Saint Vincent quickly jumped out to a 6-2 lead after two kills from McSwiggen, a kill from Nelson, and a couple of errors by the Mounties. SVC continued on the attack, going on a 10-6 spurt to increase their lead to eight at 16-8.
 
Saint Vincent furthered increased their lead to nine (22-13), winning the set (25-13) after three consecutive attack errors from Mount Aloysius to take a 1-0 lead in the match. McSwiggen totaled four kills in the set, while Genicola recorded eight assists.
 
In the second set, it was a much closer set as the team traded points back-and-forth for the majority of the set. The set was tied at 8-8, 16-16, and 19-19. Saint Vincent took the first advantage of the set, scoring three points in a row on a kill from Wyant and back-to-back kills from Sikorski to give the Bearcats a 22-19 lead, forcing a Mounties timeout.
 
Out of the timeout, Mount Aloysius scored a point, but the Bearcats answered with two more points after a service error and another kill from Nelson to put them up 24-20, forcing Mount Aloysius to once again call a timeout. After another Mount Aloysius kill out of the timeout, Saint Vincent won the set (25-21) after a Mounties service error to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Similar to the second set, the third set was back-and-forth play early on as the Bearcats held a slight 8-7 advantage in the set. The teams continued to trade points over the next few points as well as the Bearcats still held a slight advantage at 10-9, before the Mounties tied it up at 10-10.
 
That back-and-forth play continued over the next few points as well as the set was tied at 18-18. The set remained tied at 23-23 before the Bearcats scored the final two points on a block by Marino, followed by a service ace from McSwiggen to win the set (25-23) and the match 3-0.
 
Saint Vincent recorded an impressive .310 hitting percentage as a team, while totaling 30 kills, 27 assists and 31 digs in the road victory.
 
The Bearcats return to action on Thursday, February 13 as they travel to Grove City for their Presidents Athletic Conference opener. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Grove City.
