LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 28)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team breezed past Bethany for a 3-0 sweep of the Bison on Friday night in the Carey Center.
The Bearcats (6-6, 1-2 PAC) won by set scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-13 over the Bison (1-10, 0-5 PAC).
Zebadiah Wyant led the way for the Bearcats with nine total kills in the win, while also picking up 13 digs, and three service aces as well.
Tyler Nelson added nine kills for SVC as well, while
Jackson Genicola totaled a game-high 26 assists.
Shawn McSwiggen added eight kills and
Rocco Marino totaled three blocks for the Bearcats as well.
Saint Vincent quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening set and never looked back. The Bearcats had increased that lead to 13-7 and then 17-8. With the score 22-12, SVC scored the final three points in the set on a kill by Nelson, followed by back-to-back kills from Genicola to win the set (25-12), taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
It was much more back-and-forth in the early portions of the second set, as Saint Vincent held a slight 12-11 lead. With the score 16-15 Saint Vincent, the Bearcats scored the next eight points in the set to take a 24-15 lead. The Bearcats would eventually win the set (25-16) on a service error by the Bison to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bearcats controlled the entirety of the third set, quickly jumping out to a 9-1 lead. Saint Vincent would eventually cruise to the set win (25-13), winning the match 3-0.
As a team, Saint Vincent hit .308 in the match.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, March 4 with a trip to Hiram. The PAC matchup is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
