Men's volleyball falls at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio (March 4)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team fell to Hiram by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats (6-7, 1-3 PAC) lost in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-17 to the Terriers (11-6, 5-1 PAC). 

Zebadiah Wyant led the way for Saint Vincent with nine kills. Shawn McSwiggen added eight kills and a team-high nine digs in the loss. Tyler Nelson added six kills, Rocco Marino totaled three blocks, and Jackson Genicola recorded 26 assists as well.

It was back-and-forth early on in the first set as SVC slightly trailed by a score of 10-9. The score remained a one point game later in the set with the Bearcats still trailing at 17-16 after a kill from McSwiggen. Saint Vincent eventually tied the set at 23-23 after another McSwiggen kill, but two straight Hiram points won it for the Terriers (25-23) and SVC trailed 1-0 in the match.

In the second set, Saint Vincent took the first advantage. The Bearcats led 13-10 in the middle portions of the set. However, the Terriers came back to tie the set up at 13-13 and continued on the run to regain a three point lead at 21-18. SVC was unable to come back in the set as they fell in the set (25-21) and fell behind 2-0 in the match.

Hiram never lost the lead in the final set. The Terriers quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead and eventually increased the lead to 13-7 before winning the set (25-17) and the match 3-0.

In the match, Saint Vincent hit just .097, while Hiram recorded a hitting percentage of .267.

The Bearcats will look to get back on track when they travel to Thiel on Friday, March 7. The PAC matchup in Greenville is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
