HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Mar. 4) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team continued their dominant season, claiming an early morning 5-2 win over Bridgewater College at the Van der Meer Tennis Center.
Doubles play got underway with a 6-0 win by
Marisa Hooper and
Emily Pierce at second doubles, before
Lydia Lieb and
Bella Baumgardner rolled to a 6-2 win at third doubles.
The Green and Gold fell in their first singles match off the courts but rebounded with a hard-fought win at fourth singles by Lieb, 1-6, 6-2, 10-7, to take a 2-1 lead. The Eagles evened things back up by claiming the second singles point, also in a third set breaker. Pierce got SVC to the cusp of a victory as she used a third set breaker of her own to win at third singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Hooper struck the clinching blow at fifth singles with a straight sets win, 6-0, 6-2 before
Julia Runk put an exclamation point on the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing at sixth singles.
The win improves the Bearcats' record to 16-4 on the year, the most wins in a season since 2012, and they will return to action on April 11 when they travel to Mt. Aloysius for a non-conference match. First serve at 4:00PM.
