Baseball falls to Curry in final Florida game

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 8)- The Saint Vincent baseball team fell to Curry by a score of 9-2 to conclude their annual spring break trip to Florida.

Curry (1-0) quickly jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first four innings. The Bearcats (3-4) and Curry tied 2-2 the rest of the way as the Bearcats fell in their final game in the sunshine state.

L.J. Evans led Saint Vincent with two hits in his four at bats, also scoring one run. Nolan Hurd and Alex Hess both added one hit each, while Derek Hald, Dalton Nicklow, Kyle Belmont, and Nathan Whiteman all had one hit each. Whiteman also drove in a run as well.

Sean McAleer took the loss on the mound for Saint Vincent, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits, while he also struck out six and walked three as well. Jeremy Kreuzwieser, Christopher Rayman, and Josh Dailey all threw scoreless innings in relief for the Bearcats.

Curry got the scoring started right out of the gate, opening up to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. They added another run in the second and two more in the fourth to jump out to a 7-0 lead over the Bearcats. Whiteman reached on an RBI fielders choice, scoring Hurd in the fifth to get the Bearcats on the board and cut the lead to 7-1. 

However, Curry added two more runs in the sixth to open the game to a 9-1 score. Saint Vincent scored in the bottom of the ninth, but Curry still held on to hand the Bearcats the 9-2 loss.

Saint Vincent scored their two runs on eight hits, committing two errors, while Curry scored their nine runs on 15 hits, also committing two errors.

The Bearcats will now return north and play host to Mount Aloysius in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 12. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bearcat Ballfield on Wednesday afternoon.
