Bearcats cruise past Geneva in PAC Quarterfinals

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Apr. 8)- The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep against Geneva in the Presidents Athletic Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday night.

The Bearcats won all three sets by scores of 25-20 to advance into Thursday's PAC Semifinals against top-seeded Thiel.

Jackson Genicola recorded a double-double, totaling 27 assistst, while picking up 10 digs as well. Shawn McSwiggen led the match with 14 kills, while Zebadiah Wyant added 10 kills for the Bearcats. Rocco Marino led SVC with five blocks.

The teams traded points for the majority of the first set. The set was tied 10-10, 17-17, and then 19-19. After a Geneva point put the Golden Tornadoes up 20-19, the Bearcats scored the next six points to storm back and win the set (25-20), taking a 1-0 lead in the match. The Bearcats scored two of those final six points on kills from McSwiggen, with one also coming from Nick Sikorski.

Geneva opened up to a 2-1 lead in the second set, but the Bearcats answered. SVC scored the next four points and never lost the lead the rest of the set. The GT's cut the Saint Vincent lead to three at 21-18, but that's the closest they'd get the rest of the set. SVC won the set (25-20_, scoring two of the final three points on kills from Wyant and McSwiggen, giving the Bearcats a commanding 2-0 lead.

Saint Vincent had their eyes set on the PAC Semifinals as they controlled the entirety of the third set. The Bearcats jumped out to a 13-9 lead, before increasing that lead to six at 24-18. Geneva scored the next two points, before Saint Vincent won the set (25-20) and the match 3-0 on a GT service error.

The Bearcats led in assists 33-28, digs 33-27, and blocks 8-6. SVC also recorded 34 kills in comparison to Geneva's 33 kills.

SVC now advances to the PAC semifinals for the third consecutive season as they travel to take on the top-seeded Thiel Tomcats on Thursday, April 10. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Greenville, Pa.
