Four Bearcats named to All-PAC teams in baseball

TRAFFORD, Pa. (May 14)- Four Saint Vincent baseball players were named to the Presidents Athletic Conference All-Conference teams per the conference's release show tonight.

Headlining the All-Conference teams for Saint Vincent was senior catcher Derek Hald, who earned Second Team All-PAC honors. Additionally, pitchers Alex Polito and Jeremy Kreuzwieser were named Honorable Mention All-PAC, while Tyler Dancu was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team.

Hald (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) played in 40 games for Saint Vincent with 39 starts during his senior season. The senior catcher led Saint Vincent with 47 hits, which included eight doubles, while he also drove in 24 runs. Hald accumulated a .315 batting average, while he threw out 24 runners attempting to steal during the year as well. Hald totaled an impressive .978 fielding percentage for SVC.

Polito (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) was once again Saint Vincent's top relief pitcher and most reliable arm out of the pen. The senior made 18 appearances in relief, recording a team-best 3.07 ERA (Min. 20 innings pitched), pitching 29.1 innings. He struck out 17 batters, while walking 12. Opponents hit just .178 against him. Polito led the Bearcats with four saves on the mound.

Kreuzwieser (Canfield, Ohio/Ursuline) was once again one of Saint Vincent's top starters on the mound. The grad student made 12 appearances, which included 11 starts, compiling a 4.06 ERA. He recorded an impressive 51 strikeout to 18 walk ratio, while allowing opponents to hit just .243 against him. He recorded one complete game over the course of the season as well.

Dancu (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) went 3-4 on the mound for SVC during his graduate season. He struck out 47 batters over the course of his final season for Saint Vincent. Dancu tossed a complete game shutout allowing just seven hits, while striking out three in a big non-conference win against The Apprentice School for Saint Vincent on March 15. He later tossed the best game of his Saint Vincent career in an elimination game for Saint Vincent against Westminster just last week. Dancu tossed 8.2 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out five Titans and walking one.

The Bearcats finished the season with an 11-9 record in PAC play, earning the number five seed in the PAC Tournament. SVC took down Thiel in an elimination game, before falling to Westminster 3-2 in a tight game to end their season.
