GREENWOOD, Ind. (May 28)- Four Saint Vincent softball players were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, announced by the CSC yesterday afternoon.
Senior
Meghan Braun along with sophomores,
Mackenzie Favero,
Shayna Perigo, and
Alyssa Henderson all earned the academic honor for the Bearcats.
To be considered for CSC Academic All-District, nominees must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. Undergraduates must have a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or started at least 66 percent of those contests. Pitchers are required to have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.
Braun (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) was the Bearcats top pitcher over the course of the season. In the circle she led Saint Vincent with a 9-5 overall record with a 4.08 ERA. Braun tossed three complete games in 80.2 innings pitched, while she struck out 46 batters and walked just 14.
Favero (Apollo, Pa./Kiski Area) earns the honor in her first year eligible to earn the award. She picked up right where she left off during her freshman season in her sophomore campaign. The sophomore shortstop hit .323 over the course of the season, while stealing an impressive 12 bases for Saint Vincent. Favero also drove in six runs and walked 12 times as well. Favero earned All-PAC Honorable Mention honors during her sophomore campaign.
Perigo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) also earned the award in her first year eligible. She played in 33 games for the Bearcats with 28 starts. Perigo hit .273 with 10 RBIs and 16 runs scored, while also picking up three doubles. The sophomore also walked six times, while striking out just seven times in her 77 at bats over the course of the season.
Henderson (Pleasantville, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) also picks up the honor for the first time. She led the Bearcats with an impressive .406 average during her sophomore campaign. Over the course of the season, she totaled 39 hits, including six doubles, while she also drove in ten runs. She recorded two or more hits in 11 different games for SVC over the course of the season, which included a a four-hit game for Saint Vincent in their game against Thiel on April 9. Henderson was named First Team All-PAC a couple of weeks ago.
