LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 2)- The Saint Vincent women's tennis team opened up their 2025-26 campaign with a 5-2 victory against cross-town rival Pitt-Greensburg in a non-conference matchup at the SVC Courts.
The Bearcats won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point, before earning four victories in singles as well.
To open the match,
Caroline O'Connor and
Rebecca Kurylo picked up a 6-2 victory in the third doubles spot.
Rachel Zgurich and
Sydney McWreath followed with a 6-2 doubles point clinching victory in the second spot to put the Bearcats up 1-0 in the match.
SVC increased their lead to 2-0 after
Bella Baumgardner picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in the sixth singles spot. After a UPG win in third singles, reigning PAC Player of the Year
Carolina Walters earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top singles spot to give SVC a 3-1 lead.
The Bobcats followed by picking up another win at second singles to cut the Saint Vincent lead to 3-2. O'Connor followed with her second victory of the day, this one a match clinching victory in the fourth singles spot. She won by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
McWreath added an insurance victory and her second win of the day to close out the match. In the number five singles spot, McWreath won by a 6-2, 6-3 final.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, September 7 as they travel to Penn State-Altoona for a non-conference matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
