Women's volleyball competes at Hiram in tri-match

HIRAM, Ohio (Sept. 27)- The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team fell in both of their matches at Hiram in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (2-8, 1-3 PAC) fell to Hiram 3-0 in a PAC matchup to open the day before falling in five sets to Mount Union in a non-conference matchup.

MATCH 1- Hiram 3, Saint Vincent 0

In the Bearcats first match of the day, they fell in straight sets by scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-23 in the PAC matchup.

Dakota Hershberger led the Bearcats with eight kills, while Aubrey Siwula and Meegan Williams both added six kills each. Williams also added 15 digs, while Brenna McCracken added 10 digs. Sani Jones totaled 13 assists to lead Saint Vincent.

Hiram led in most categories. The Terriers led in digs by a 63-51 margin, assists were 38-24, aces were 10-2, and kills were 42-28 all in favor of Hiram.

In the loss, Saint Vincent recording a .121 hitting percentage and Hiram hit .277.

MATCH 2- Mount Union 3, Saint Vincent 2

In the second match of the day, Mount Union won the opening set 25-17. SVC went on to win the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-12. Mount Union answered by winning the final two sets by scores of 25-15 and 15-7.

Hershberger led SVC once again in the second match, recording 18 kills. Siwula added 12 kills and Williams totaled eight kills and 18 digs. Lauren Fox added six blocks for the Bearcats and Bailey Green totaled 18 digs. McCracken led Saint Vincent with 23 digs in the loss.

After losing the opening set, Saint Vincent took full control in the match winning the next two sets, including an impressive 25-12 win in set three.

However, Mount Union controlled the final two sets handing the Bearcats their second loss of the afternoon. Mount Union recorded a .154 hitting percentage while Saint Vincent hit .153 in the match.

Digs were 93-91 in favor of Mount Union over the course of the match, while blocks were close with Mount Union holding a slight 7-6 advantage.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Wednesday, October 1 with a home PAC matchup against Bethany. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center on Wednesday night.
