LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 6)- A three-goal second half led the Saint Vincent women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory against Marymount in a non-conference matchup on Saturday evening at UPMC Field.
After a scoreless opening half, Saint Vincent (3-0) scored two goals to open up the second half, before adding an insurance goal with about seven minutes remaining to down the Saints (2-1).
Emma Koller led Saint Vincent, scoring two of the three goals.
Jordan Kirkwood scored the third insurance goal for SVC.
Cori Bieber,
Ava Azurin, and
Jude Galvin all picked up assists for the Bearcats in the win as well.
Rilyn Warner was impressive again in net, allowing just the one goal, while making five saves.
It was a slow start in the first half as both teams went scoreless, while totaling just nine shots between the two in the opening half.
The Bearcats started the scoring in the high offensive second half play. Just four minutes into the half, Koller scored her first of two goals on an assist from Bieber to put SVC up 1-0. She followed with her second goal about 14 minutes later on an assist from Azurin to increase the SVC lead to 2-0.
With about 19 minutes to go in the second half, Marymount got on the board with a goal to cut the lead in half at 2-1. That's went Kirkwood solidified the win for SVC, scoring on an assist from Galvin with seven minutes left to move the lead to 3-1 and give the Bearcats the non-confernece victory.
Marymount slightly out shot Saint Vincent by a 10-9 margin, including 6-5 in shots on goal. The Saints totaled five corner kicks to just one for the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent will have a quick turnaround as they play host to Penn State-Harrisburg tomorrow, Sunday, September 7 in another non-conference matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at UPMC Field on Sunday evening.
