LORETTO, Pa. (Jan. 28) – The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team delivered a decisive performance, sweeping Penn State Altoona 3–0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-20) in non-conference action inside DeGol Arena.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 2-2 on the season, while Altoona falls to 1-2. Saint Vincent dominated from the opening set, hitting .338 as a team and outpacing Altoona in every rotation.
The Bearcats' balanced offensive attack was led by
Shawn McSwiggen, who tallied 12 kills and two blocks to anchor SVC's frontline attack.
Zebadiah Wyant added seven kills and a team-high three aces, and
Tyler Nelson matched Wyant with seven kills of his own in a steady offensive showing.
Setter
Jack Ryan paced the Bearcats with 25 assists and contributed five digs, keeping the offense in rhythm and facilitating scoring opportunities for all hitters. Saint Vincent also finished with four team blocks, led by
Rocco Marino's four stuffs, and received strong defensive efforts across the lineup, including five digs each from McSwiggen and Wyant.
On the stat sheet, the Bearcats totaled 37 kills to Altoona's 22, recorded four aces to one, and held a decisive advantage in assists (28–17) and digs (25–15). Saint Vincent's attack efficiency and defensive pressure helped control every set, closing out the sweep in straight frames.
Penn State Altoona was led offensively by Lukas Weathersbee with nine kills, while Caleb Fries added seven. Despite their efforts, Altoona struggled to sustain offensive consistency against the Bearcats' balanced attack.
The Bearcats return to action on Tuesday, February 3 with a home matchup against Carlow. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Carey Center on Tuesday night.
