LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 10) – The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team used a balanced attack and strong all-around play to earn a 3–0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-18) Presidents' Athletic Conference win over Bethany College Tuesday evening at the Robert S. Carey Center.
With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in PAC play, while the Bison fall to 0-6 and 0-1 in league action.
Saint Vincent controlled the match from the opening set, hitting a collective .278 and outpacing Bethany in every rotation. The Bearcats finished with 37 kills to the Bison's 25, recorded nine aces to one, and held a strong advantage in digs 46-35, showcasing depth and effort on both sides of the ball.
Offensively,
Shawn McSwiggen led the Bearcats with 12 kills and four aces, anchoring SVC's frontline attack and keeping pressure on the Bethany defense.
Zebadiah Wyant added 10 kills and four aces, while
Tyler Nelson chipped in seven kills and one ace to help maintain momentum throughout the three sets.
Rocco Marino contributed four kills and also helped anchor Saint Vincent's defense at the net with a block, and several others provided support as the attack remained balanced and efficient.
Setter
Jack Ryan directed the offense with 32 assists and provided stability in service reception, while
Jackson Genicola led the back row with 17 digs to sustain extended rallies. The Bearcats' effort at the net produced four total blocks, as Saint Vincent matched Bethany's energy and limited second-chance opportunities.
Set scores told the story of SVC's control, as the Bearcats jumped out quickly in the first set and maintained leads throughout the second and third, closing out the sweep in straight sets.
The Bearcats return to action on Tuesday, February 17 with another PAC matchup at Bethany. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night.
