HIRAM, Ohio (Feb. 7) – The Saint Vincent men's volleyball team turned in a strong all-around performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping Hilbert College 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) at Price Gymnasium in Hiram.
The Bearcats improved to 4-2 on the season, while Hilbert moved to 1-6.
Saint Vincent controlled the match from the opening whistle, hitting .370 as a team with 46 kills while holding Hilbert to .090.
The Bearcats were especially sharp in the first two sets, combining efficient attacking with steady defense to build separation and never allow the Hawks to gain momentum.
Offensively,
Shawn McSwiggen paced SVC with 12 kills, while
Zebadiah Wyant and
Tyler Nelson added eight kills apiece.
Setter
Jack Ryan directed the attack with 37 assists and also led the Bearcats defensively with nine digs, helping Saint Vincent finish with a 42-28 advantage in digs.
The Bearcats also received steady two-way play throughout the lineup, matching Hilbert with two aces and three total blocks while consistently keeping the Hawks out of system. Hilbert was led by Michael Pozzuto and Justin Veal, who each posted seven kills, but the Saint Vincent defense limited sustained runs across all three sets.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, February 10 with their first Presidents Athletic Conference matchup of the year, hosting Bethany. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
