Women's basketball breezes by Thiel on the road

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Feb. 7) – The Saint Vincent women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack and staunch defense to earn an 88–42 victory over Thiel College Saturday afternoon in Greenville.

With the win, the Bearcats improved to 15–6 overall and 10–2 in PAC play, while Thiel dropped to 6–15 overall and 1–11 in league action.

Saint Vincent set the tone early with an efficient offensive rhythm, outscoring Thiel 18–14 in the first quarter and steadily increasing the margin behind strong shooting and active ball movement. The Bearcats shot 55.4% from the field (36–of–65) and 44.4% from three (8–of–18), while connecting on 80.0% of their free throws (8–of–10).

Senior guard Olivia Yancy led the Bearcats with 16 points, pacing the team with her scoring throughout the contest. Makenna Maier added 10 points and six rebounds, while Camdon Bashor chipped in nine points and contributed on both ends of the floor.

Emerson Peffer added 11 points, and Brooke Evans scored four with four rebounds, giving Saint Vincent a balanced scoring effort that featured contributions from players up and down the roster.

Janay Rissmiller (six) and Avina Norman (six) also provided valuable offense in key stretches. 14 different Bearcats scored in the win.

Defensively, the Bearcats limited Thiel to 28.0% shooting (14–of–50) and 18.2% from three (2–of–11) while forcing turnovers and controlling the glass. Saint Vincent's pressure disrupted the Tomcats' offensive flow, leading to easy transition buckets and allowing the Bearcats to maintain command throughout the second half.

Saint Vincent's persistent attack saw the Bearcats outscore Thiel in every quarter, including a 25–9 advantage in the second quarter that helped open a double-digit halftime lead. The Bearcats continued their momentum in the third and fourth quarters, closing out the game with a disciplined and energetic performance on both ends.

The Bearcats will next take on W&J on Wednesday, February 11 with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Robert S. Carey Center.
