WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Apr. 11)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Waynesburg.

The Bearcats won the opener 7-2, before falling 15-5 in a run-rule shortened game two.

Game 1- Saint Vincent 7, Waynesburg 2
The Saint Vincent College baseball team earned a 7-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference road victory over Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Bearcats improved to 9-16 overall and 5-6 in PAC play, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 10-19 overall and 1-10 in conference action. Saint Vincent finished with 12 hits in the victory, while Waynesburg totaled 10.

Saint Vincent wasted little time taking control, plating three unearned runs in the top of the first inning. After
Ryan Tierney reached on an error and stole second,
Chuck Fontana brought him home with an RBI double down the left field line.
Isiah Petty followed with an RBI triple to right center, and
Traynor Janosko capped the inning with an RBI single to second base to give the Bearcats an early 3-0 lead.

Waynesburg got one run back on a solo home run by Hunter Mamie in the second, but Saint Vincent responded with another three-run frame in the fifth.

Tierney again sparked the rally after reaching on an error, and Fontana singled home a run before Janosko lined a two-run single up the middle to stretch the advantage to 6-1.
Gavin Roebuck then added an RBI double in the seventh to score Fontana and make it 7-1.

Fontana led the Bearcats offensively, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Petty also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Janosko finished 2-for-4 with a walk and a game-high three RBIs. Tierney scored twice, and Roebuck added a double and an RBI.

On the mound,
Nolan Hurd turned in a strong start for Saint Vincent, allowing just one run on eight hits over 7.1 innings while striking out two.
Jacob Auld worked the final 1.2 innings, giving up one run and striking out two, as the Bearcats limited Waynesburg to two runs for the afternoon.

Game 2- Waynesburg 15, Saint Vincent 5 (7 Innings)
The Saint Vincent College baseball team dropped game two of its Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader at Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Yellow Jackets, 15-5, in seven innings.

With the loss, the Bearcats moved to 9-17 overall and 5-7 in PAC play, while Waynesburg improved to 11-19 overall and 2-10 in conference action.

Waynesburg struck first on a solo home run by Eli Boring in the bottom of the first, but Saint Vincent answered in the second when
Chuck Fontana scored on an RBI triple to right field by
Isiah Petty to even the score at 1-1. The Yellow Jackets responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to regain control and take a 4-1 lead.

The Bearcats chipped away in the third.
Ryan Finniff walked,
Dylan Schmude reached on an error, and
Ryan Tierney dropped down a bunt single to load the bases. Fontana then brought home Finniff with a sacrifice fly, and Petty followed with an RBI double to left field to pull Saint Vincent within 4-3.

Waynesburg added three runs in the fifth to stretch the lead to 7-3, but Saint Vincent answered again in the sixth.
Traynor Janosko scored on a wild pitch, and Schmude doubled to right center to plate
Gavin Roebuck and make it a 7-5 game.

The Yellow Jackets, however, put the game away with three runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh to secure the run-rule victory.

Petty led the Bearcats offensively, going 2-for-4 with a triple, double, and two RBIs. Fontana finished 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored, while Schmude doubled and drove in a run. Tierney,
Ben Hudson, and
Jack Murphy also recorded hits for Saint Vincent, which finished with eight hits in the loss.

On the mound,
Braden Trainor took the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, over 3.0 innings.

Jack Reichart,
Anderson Ford, and
Eli Wittmann also saw time in relief. Waynesburg was led by Boring, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, four runs scored, and five RBIs.
