PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Apr. 21) – The Saint Vincent College baseball team earned a 7-2 non-conference road victory over La Roche University Tuesday afternoon.
Saint Vincent improved to 12-19 overall with the win, while La Roche fell to 9-21.
The Bearcats broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when
Armani LoRusso doubled home
Isiah Petty for a 1-0 lead. La Roche answered in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 1-1 when Zander Sekerak scored on a wild pitch.
Saint Vincent regained control in the sixth. After
Traynor Janosko and Petty came around to score, LoRusso delivered again with a two-run double to put the Bearcats in front 3-1.
In the seventh,
Reid Rachwal launched a two-run homer to extend the lead to 5-1, scoring
Dylan Schmude. La Roche got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single from Chase Sankovich, but the Bearcats answered once more in the ninth when Rachwal struck again with his second two-run homer of the day, once again bringing home Schmude to make it 7-2.
Rachwal paced the Saint Vincent offense by going 2-4 with two home runs, four RBI's, and two runs scored, while LoRusso finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI's. Petty added a strong day at the plate, going 3-4 with two runs scored, and Saint Vincent totaled 10 hits in the win.
On the mound,
Braden Trainor earned the victory, while Saint Vincent's pitching staff held La Roche to two runs on 12 hits and did not commit an error defensively.
Saint Vincent returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22 with a road PAC doubleheader at Allegheny. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Meadville.
