LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 8)- The Saint Vincent baseball team split a Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader against Chatham at Bearcat Ballfield on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bearcats lost the opener 10-3 before come back from an eight run deficit in game two to earn a 14-12 win and salvage the doubleheader split.

Game 1- Chatham 10, Saint Vincent 3
The Saint Vincent baseball team dropped the opening game of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader to Chatham University by a 10-3 final Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Ballfield.

Chatham plated a pair of runs in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead before adding three more in the fourth and breaking the game open with a four-run fifth inning. The Cougars added an insurance run in the sixth to extend their advantage to 10-3.

Saint Vincent got on the board in the fourth inning, scoring all three of its runs in the frame to cut into the deficit, but could not generate any further offense over the final five innings.

Dylan Schmude and
Ryan Tierney each recorded two hits to lead the Bearcats offensively, while both players also drove in a run. Schmude added a walk and was active on the bases, while Tierney finished with a pair of RBIs.

Traynor Janosko and
Ryan Finniff each crossed the plate for Saint Vincent, with Janosko adding a hit in the contest.
Jack Murphy also contributed a base knock for the Bearcats.

On the mound,
Jason Forgey (2-3) took the loss after allowing five runs over 3.2 innings of work. The Bearcat bullpen saw appearances from
Gavin Switzer,
Garrett Knapp,
Anderson Ford, and
Evan Wiewiora, with Ford tossing 3.1 innings while surrendering just one run.

Chatham was paced offensively by Nolan Boehm and Devin Fluhmann, who combined for six RBIs, while Matt Brandt and Cooper Baxter each scored three runs in the victory.

Game 2- Saint Vincent 14, Chatham 12
The Saint Vincent baseball team rallied from an early deficit and erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning to defeat Chatham University, 14-12, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Ballfield.

Chatham jumped in front with four runs in the second inning and added four more in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead. The Cougars tacked on a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to take a 10-5 advantage, but the Bearcats answered with their biggest offensive frame of the season in the bottom of the sixth.

Saint Vincent first got on the board in the fourth, when
Ben Hudson singled to center to bring home
Armani LoRusso and make it an 8-1 game. In the fifth,
Ryan Tierney delivered an RBI single,
Austen Hester followed with an RBI base hit and LoRusso ripped a two-run double to center, trimming the deficit to 9-5.

The Bearcats then exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Hester reached on an error that scored both
Dylan Schmude and
Brayden Macaluso, before
Chuck Fontana added an RBI single.

 LoRusso followed with an RBI single,
Traynor Janosko tied the game with an RBI single to right, and Hudson gave Saint Vincent the lead with another run-scoring hit. Macaluso then doubled home two more runs and Schmude capped the inning with an RBI single to right to give the Bearcats a 14-10 lead.

LoRusso led the Bearcats offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Hester went 1-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, while Hudson added two hits and two RBIs. Schmude, Tierney, Fontana, Janosko, Macaluso and
Ryan Finniff all recorded two hits apiece as Saint Vincent pounded out 17 hits in the win.

On the mound,
George Wonica earned the win in relief after working an inning, while
Jacob Auld picked up his second save of the season by throwing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Andrew Bell got the start, with
Gavin Roebuck,
Jack Reichart,
Connor Soska, Wonica and Auld all seeing action in relief.

Chatham scored twice in the eighth on an RBI double by Eddie Rueda, but Auld shut the door over the final two innings to secure the comeback victory. Angelo DeLeonardis drove in two runs for the Cougars, while Rueda also finished with two RBIs.

With the win, Saint Vincent moved to 8-16 overall and 4-6 in PAC play, while Chatham fell to 18-7 overall and 4-6 in conference action.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 11 with a road PAC doubleheader at Waynesburg. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon.
