Bearcats sweep Geneva for second straight PAC victory

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Sept. 26) – The Saint Vincent women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, earning a 3-0 sweep over Geneva College on Saturday afternoon inside Metheny Fieldhouse.

The Bearcats (4-7, 2-0 PAC) earned the victory by set scores of 25-11, 25-20 and 25-19 over the Golden Tornadoes (7-7, 0-1 PAC).

Meegan Williams led the Saint Vincent attack with 14 kills while hitting .357, committing just four errors on 28 attempts. Williams also totaled 10 digs to record a double-double. Aubrey Siwula joined Williams in double figures with 12 kills, while Elliot Hardy added four kills on just seven attempts to hit .571.

Madie Eagler paced the Bearcats with 18 assists, while Preslee Horchak added 14 and Brenna McCracken totaled three. Eagler also recorded three total blocks, including one solo block, while Ashlynn Schutz finished with three total blocks of her own.

Defensively, McCracken led Saint Vincent with 13 digs, while Williams added 10 and Maria Goldstein totaled eight. Goldstein and Jolina Estremera each recorded three service aces as the Bearcats finished with eight as a team.

As a team, Saint Vincent totaled 36 kills, 35 assists, eight service aces, five total blocks and 60 digs while hitting .243. The Bearcats held Geneva to just 28 kills and a .042 hitting percentage, as the Golden Tornadoes committed 23 attacking errors.

Saint Vincent took control early in the opening set. Leading 11-6, the Bearcats rattled off seven consecutive points behind the serve of Goldstein to open up an 18-6 advantage. Saint Vincent never looked back, totaling 13 kills and hitting .278 in the set on its way to the 25-11 victory.

The Bearcats followed by taking the second set, 25-20, before closing out the sweep with a strong offensive performance in the third. Saint Vincent totaled 14 kills with just one attacking error on 36 attempts in the final set, good for a .361 hitting percentage, to secure the 25-19 win and the straight-set victory.

Saint Vincent will return to PAC action on Saturday, Oct. 3, traveling to Greenville, Pennsylvania to take on Thiel College. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
