SVC suffers first setback

BOX SCORE

Despite a career-high 29 points from Maria Baroffio, a hot-shooting Juniata College squad avenged last year's season ending loss in the ECAC Championships by defeating Saint Vincent 86-71 in Huntingdon, PA.

The Eagles shot just under 50% in the first half from the floor, then shot 63% in the second half to upset the 16th-ranked Bearcats.

Juniata opened an 8-0 lead in the first four minutes, and Saint Vincent was able to close the gap to just four, 11-7, a minute later.  However, the hosts then went on a 12-point run and SVC never recovered.  The lead got as high as 25 with 3:30 left in the half before Saint Vincent was able to cut the margin to twenty, 44-24, at the half.

Things looked brighter at the start of the second half, as Saint Vincent outscored the Eagles 10-2 over the first 2:08 to make it a 12-point game, but a time out by Juniata gave them a chance to regroup, and they quickly scored the game's next seven points to put the game out of reach.

For Saint Vincent, Baroffio's 29 points were a game high, and she also added four steals.  Brittany Sedlock had a double-double, with 19 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with six steals.  Devin McGrath and Melissa Mansur each scored 7 points.

Juniata was led by Ashton Bankos, who scored 19 points.  On the night, the Eagles out-rebounded SVC by a 42-30 margin.

With the loss, Saint Vincent is now 6-1 on the season, while Juniata improves to 6-2.  Saint Vincent will be back in action on Saturday, hosting Chatham University at 6PM in the Carey Center.
