Bearcats downed by Heidelberg in season opener

The Bearcats opened up the 2010 season on a down note, falling 2-0 to Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH.

Saint Vincent had a difficulty mustering much offense, as the Berg outshot the Bearcats 22-4 for the game. The Berg opened the scoring with just under nine minutes left in the opening half, when Jakob Reinholt knocked in a rebound from the doorstep.

Heidelberg scored the insurance tally in the game's 70th minute on a goal by Mike Harling, assisted by Gavin McCarthy. Saint Vincent goalie Jake Gilbertson was strong against the Berg's onslaught, posting eight saves in the losing effort.

"We didn't create much offense at all," said SVC head coach Keith Harmon. "I can't fault our defense, it played really well, led by Jake in goal. We have to build on our possession game, and really clean that up."

The Bearcats (0-1) will return to action this weekend, taking part in a two-day tournament at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, beginning with a noon contest on Saturday against Wittenberg University.
