The Saint Vincent women's basketball team rolled to a 79-66 victory on the road over Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
The Bearcats opened the game with a 4-0 lead after quick scores from
Brittany Sedlock and
Devin McGrath. The Saint Vincent lead grew to 8-2 when Sedlock scored with 17:20 remaining.
Thiel then started fighting its way back. The Tomcats cut the lead to 12-10 when Julia Monteleone hit a three pointer with 13:58 left.
Elle Collins put Saint Vincent in front by five, 17-12, when she connected on a three pointer with 12:58 left.
The Tomcats took control of the game at that point, embarking on an 11-1 run , capped off by a Kelly Barzak free throw that put the Tomcats in front 23-18, with 6:23 remaining in the opening half.
After going scoreless for almost six minutes, the Bearcats took the momentum back from Thiel as they closed the half on a 17-5 run.
Jordan Clinton scored seven of those points and
Melissa Mansur scored with :43 left to put Saint Vincent ahead 35-28 at the break. The Bearcats were forced to play a majority of the first half without Sedlock as she was in early foul trouble with three fouls.
Barzak led all scorers with 11 points at the break.
The teams traded buckets early to start the second half and Saint Vincent ked 39-36 with 17:09 left in regulation. Saint Vincent then opened the game up courtesy of a 26-6 run over the next seven minutes.
Elle Collins sparked the run when she put Saint Vincent ahead 41-36 with 16:42 left. Collins scored nine points during the run as the Bearcats pushed their lead to 68-42 with just over nine minutes remaining.
Thiel did not go quietly, though. The Tomcats scrapped their way back in, using a 1903 run of their own, cutting the Bearcats lead to 71-63 with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Saint Vincent was able to thwart the comeback attempt by converting at the free throw line down the stretch and hanging on for the 79-66 victory.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 7-1, 4-0 in the PAC and have yet to lose to Thiel since joining the conference. The Tomcats drop to 2-7, 2-2 in the PAC, with the loss.
NOTES: Collins set a new career-high with 19 points and led all scorers in the contest…

Devin McGrath (12), and Sedlock (11) also scored in double figures for the Bearcats…McGrath finished two assists shy of a triple-double and grabbed 12 boards…Kelly Barzak and Kelly Muffley each scored 18 points to lead Thiel.
