Despite shooting just 33 percent on the day, the Bearcats overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Waynesburg University on the road, 64-57.
SVC got off to a solid start, opening a 16-10 lead thanks to a balanced offense, with six players contributing early points. The visitors continued to hold the lead until the 7:55 mark of the first half, when the Yellow Jackets took a 22-21 advantage after a pair of free throws.
The teams continued to trade leads, but Waynesburg closed the half on a 5-2 run, taking a 30-27 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Waynesburg increased the lead to eight, 38-30, with 16:30 left in the second half, but the combination of aria Baroffio and Brittany Sedlock keyed a 12-point Saint Vincent run, making the score 42-38 with 12:15 remaining.
The Jackets weren't finished, however, fighting back to take a 49-47 lead on a conventional three-point play near the 8-minute mark.
SVC then fought back, connecting on several shots from the charity stripe, taking a 55-51 lead with 3:21 on the clock.. With 2:01 left, the margin was down to just one point when Waynesburg's Hannah Hunter was fouled while attempting a three-pointer, but Hunter managed to hit just one of three shots, leaving the game tied at 55.
A drive and score by Emily Fenton gave the Bearcats a 57-55 lead with 1:44 to go, but Waynesburg once again tied the game on a pair of free throws at the 1:28 mark.
SVC then broke the Waynesburg press, and Baroffio found Savannah Hardy alone under the net for a score that would prove to be the game-winning basket.
Saint Vincent then added five free throws in the closing minute to seal the win, while the defense kept the Jackets off the board.
Sedlock led SVC with 17 points and 12 rebounds, just missing a triple-double on the day, as she added a game best 7 steals. Baroffio tallied 15 points, while Mansur added 9. Fenton scored 8 points and had 5 steals, while Devin McGrath also scored 8 points. Hardy grabbed six boards.
For Waynesburg, Elisha Jones led all scorers on the day with 22 points, and also grabbed 12 rebounds. Brittany Spencer had 13 points.
With the win, SVC improves to 21-2 overall on the year, 13-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Waynesburg drops to 16-7, 9-6 in the PAC.
