The SVC women's lacrosse team lost a back-and-forth battle with the Fighting Scots of the College of Wooster, 12-10, on the Saint Vincent turf.
The Bearcats scored the game's first two goals, courtesy of
Liz Basile-Louison and
Alyssa Lang, in the game's first two minutes of play.
After Wooster cut the deficit in half, Basile-Louison added her second goal just over six minutes into play, and the lead grew to 3-1. However, the visitors then tallied three unanswered goals to take their first lead, 4-3, with just under 20 minutes left in the first half.
From there, it was a back-and-forth game, with SVC erasing a 7-6 deficit with two goals to end the half - one by
Nora Posival, and one by
Annie Roslonski with just 38 seconds left in the first stanza.
The Scots then turned things around to start the second half, tallying three quick goals in the first 2 1/2 minutes of play to take a 10-8 lead. Basile-Louison cut the margin to one, 10-9, with just under 24 minutes left, but Wooster's Eileen Barrer scored three minutes later to run the lead back to two.
After that, it became a defensive battle, with neither team scoring for over 15 minutes. With five minutes left, Basile-Louison added her fifth goal of the game to make the score 11-10, but the Scots added a late goal to seal the win.
On the day, Wooster (2-3) out-shot SVC by a 24-20 margin, and each team recorded 15 ground balls.
Meghan Reiser recorded six saves in the net for SVC, while Wooster's Shawna Ferris saved two shots.
SVC is now 0-2 on the year and will travel to Virginia for a Sunday matchup against Shenandoah College.
