The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season in a big way, defeating Waynesburg University 23-3 at Wiley Stadium in Waynesburg.
The Bearcats jumped to a 16-0 halftime lead and then cruised down the stretch, improving to 1-3 on the year.
Ten players recorded at least two points on the day for Saint Vincent, led by
Nora Posival, who erupted for five goals and three assists.
Megan Fisher added six points, coming via four goals and two assists, while
Kelly Naugle tallied a five-point day, with two goals and three helpers.
Kaley Burkardt scored three goals for SVC, while
Emily Fedor,
Liz Basile-Louison, and
Alyssa Lang each scored two goals. Anne Roslonski scored a goal with two assists, while
Alesha Ankrom tallied the first two points of her career, with a goal and an assist.
For the game, the Bearcats owned a 37-15 advantage in shots, with goalie
Meghan Reiser earning the win in the net, making seven saves. Saint Vincent also had the edge in ground balls (24-13) and draw controls (19-9), and the Bearcats forced 21 turnovers while committing just 15.
Naugle led the team with five ground balls, while three Bearcats, Basile-Louison, Fedor, and
Kerry Tittinger, snagged three grounders apiece.
Waynesburg was led on the scoresheet by Maria Shepas, who scored two of the Yellow Jackets' three goals. Tiffany Stansberry added the third Waynesburg tally, while goalie Erin Burry made seven saves and grabbed a team-high five ground balls.
Saint Vincent will now have a four-day layoff before returning to action on Sunday, when it hosts Kenyon College for a 2pm game at Chuck Noll Field.
