The visiting Allegheny College Gators used a 6-0 run over portions of both halves to come back and defeat the Bearcats 12-9 in women's lacrosse action on the Saint Vincent Turf.
Saint Vincent led 5-4 with 9:31 left in the opening half, until the Gators responded to go up 7-5 at halftime, eventually stretching their lead to 10-5 with 20 minutes left in regulation. The Bearcats would out-score the Gators 4-2 over the final 19 minutes of regulation, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Annie Roslonski had a big day to lead Saint Vincent, finishing with three goals and one assists, while
Liz Basile-Louison and
Alyssa Lang each had two goals apiece.
Allegheny jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead 4:10 into the first half, but the hosts responded in a big way. Roslonski's first goal of the day, with 23:58 left in the opening half, put the Bearcats on the board, before Lang's first goal would tie the game with 18:36 remaining.
Saint Vincent kept the momentum, with
Megan Fisher and Roslonski scoring in a two-minute span to give the Bearcats a 4-2 lead with just over 14 minutes left in the half. The Gators would quickly tie it up with a pair of goals in the 20th minute, but Roslonski capped the hat trick and put SVC on top 5-4 with 9:31 left.
Allegheny then countered in a big way, with Monica Villanueva tying the game 20 seconds after Roslonski's goal, and jump starting the Gator offense, which would score two more goals before the end of the half to take the 7-5 advantage into halftime. Following the break, the lead continued to grow, as Allegheny scored three goals in the first nine minutes of play to double up the Bearcats 10-5.
With 19:43 left, Basile-Louison's first goal of the day, on a free position attempt, would snap the scoreless skid, but then neither team would find the board again for nearly 13 minutes, as the Gators used a slowdown, possession offense to keep the Bearcats at bay. Basile-Louison's second goal of the half, with 6:43 to go, would cut the deficit to 10-7, and after a quick Allegheny score,
Emma Leonard would score her first goal of the year for SVC to make the score 11-8 with 3:30 to go.
The Gators would then score another insurance tally to take a four-goal lead with 2:19 left, before Lang would close the day's scoring with her second of the afternoon with 2:07 remaining.
For the game, Allegheny out-shot the Bearcats 25-17, and forced 12 Saint Vincent turnovers while committing nine. SVC's
Meghan Reiser made seven saves in defeat, while Allegheny keeper Becca O'Shurak turned aside five shots.
Allegheny was led offensively by Jensen Paterson, who turned in a five-point day with three goals and two assists. Abby Silvester added four goals for the Gators, and Kiyah Voyer-Colbath three.
Saint Vincent (1-7) will return to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Wittenberg University on the SVC Turf beginning at 2pm.
