The Bearcat men's lacrosse team's four-game winning streak came to a close, as 10th-ranked Denison University beat Saint Vincent 9-3 at Chuck Noll Field.

Saint Vincent (8-3) trailed just 3-2 at halftime, before the Big Red ended the game with four unanswered goals over the final 21 minutes of regulation to put the game away.

Denison owned the majority of possession in the first quarter, out-shooting SVC 14-3, but managed just one goal, thanks to seven first quarter saves by Bearcat goalie Adam Gunter.

With 10:39 remaining in the second quarter, Saint Vincent found the scoreboard, as Zach Wilfong tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted tally.  Three minutes later, the Bearcats would take the 2-1 lead on a man-up goal by Will DeLanoy.

Denison would eventually score the final two goals of the second quarter, to go into halftime with the slim 3-2 lead, and then would go up by two just over ninety seconds into the third quarter on a goal by Davis Lukens.

Saint Vincent would again pull to within one, 4-3, on an unassisted goal from Pete Hronis with 8:34 left in the quarter, before the Big Red would end the third with two unanswered goals to take a 6-3 lead into the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats were unable to solve the Denison defense, while the Big Red scored three goals in the first nine minutes of the stanza to put the game away.

Denison out-shot the Bearcats 39-22, with Gunter turning in a career-high 16 saves in the losing effort.  Josh McCloskey had four ground balls to lead the Bearcats, while teammate Sean Kretovics went 7-for-8 in the face off circle.

The Big Red were led statistically by Cory Couture's four points, on three goals and one assist, while teammate Emmett Jones scored three goals.  Nick Petracca made seven saves in goal for Denison (8-1), while Tommy Harrison had a game-high seven ground balls.

The Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, closing out the home portion of their schedule with a 4:30pm game with Washington & Jefferson on the SVC Turf.
