The Bearcat women's lacrosse team saw a second half comeback fall short, as they were defeated 14-9 at Washington & Jefferson College.
The host Presidents jumped to an 11-3 halftime lead, and despite outscoring W&J 6-3 over the final 30 minutes, the Bearcats were unable to come back, falling to 1-5 on the year.
The Presidents took a 5-1 lead just six minutes into play, before the Bearcats posted a pair of unanswered goals, one from
Annie Roslonski and one from
Kaley Burkardt, to pull to within 5-3 with 18:22 left in the opening stanza.
W&J then blew the game open, ending the first half on a 6-0 run to take the eight-goal advantage into the second.
Emily Fedor and
Megan Fisher scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the second half, making the score 11-5, but the Presidents would eventually jump ahead 14-7 with 5:08 left to play. Two goals by SVC's Liz Basille-Louison over the final 2:24 would close the day's scoring.
Basille-Louison ended the day with a team-high five points, on two goals and three assists, while Fedor scored four goals for the Bearcats. Megan Reiser posted 13 saves in goal, while Fisher and
Kelly Naugle shared the team lead with two ground balls apiece.
W&J was led by Brittney Oake, who scored six goals while adding an assist.
The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Tiffin University at 4pm on the Bearcat Turf.
