Bearcats cruise past Geneva, 69-33

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Jan. 11) – Every player scored as the Saint Vincent women's basketball team led wire-to-wire and cruised to a 69-33 Presidents' Athletic Conference win at Geneva.
 
With the win the Bearcats improve to 11-3 on the season and 6-1 in league action while the Golden Tornadoes drop to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the PAC.
 
The first nine points of the game were scored by SVC as senior Brittany Sedlock recorded a layup just five seconds into play before junior Melissa Mansur posted the next five points on a layup and three pointer. Sedlock closed the run with a jumper at the 17:17-mark to stretch the early lead to 9-0.
 
Following a Geneva three-pointer that made the score 9-3, SVC embarked on a 13-5 run over the next three-plus minutes to stretch the margin to 22-8. During the run, junior Devin McGrath scored six of her game-high 12 points while senior Emily Fenton posted five points in the span.
 
A Golden Tornadoes bucket at the 12:17-mark stopped the run and made the score 22-10, but SVC recovered with an 11-3 run that lasted four-plus minutes. Freshman Jessica Welch started the run with a fast break layup with 11:21 remaining in the half. Classmate Kelley Sedlock hit a three-pointer before three consecutive layups from sophomore Ariel Rocco and Brittany Sedlock stretched the margin to 20 points, 33-13, with 7:10 to play before the break.
 
With a 39-17 lead with just over five minutes left in the first half, SVC closed the half with a 9-5 run including a three pointer from freshman Alexa Lee that started the run. The Bearcats took a 45-22 lead into the intermission.
 
Geneva scored the first points of the second half before registered 13-straight points, 10 of which came in the paint, to make it a 58-26 margin. During the run, McGrath and Mansur scored four points while freshman Elle Collins hit a three-pointer. Geneva scored its first points in 8:06 at the 11:16-mark  to cut the lead to 58-26 before the two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game with SVC cruising to the win, 69-33.
 
McGrath led all scorers with 12 points in just 21 minutes while adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Mansur chipped in nine points, four rebounds and four assists, and Brittany Sedlock added eight points and a game-best six rebounds.
 
Beth DeLuca was the only Golden Tornado in double-digits with 11 points while Samantha Fisher added six points and six rebounds.
 
For the game, SVC shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the field and hit six three-pointers. Geneva shot just 34.2 percent (13-of-38) for the game, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) in the second half.
 
SVC held a six-rebound edge, 38-32, and recorded 16 assists on 28 field goals. The Bearcats also forced the Golden Tornadoes into 31 turnovers while committing just 10 turnovers.
 
The Bearcats return home on Saturday, Jan. 14 to host Thomas More at 2 p.m. in a battle of the top two teams from the league's preseason poll. The game will be broadcast live on the PAC Sports Network as part of the conference's Game of the Week.
