TRAFFORD, Pa. (Mar. 4)- The Saint Vincent women's basketball team picked up a couple of major Presidents Athletic Conference end of the season awards, while three Bearcats earned All-Conference honors.
First Year Head Coach
Kam Gissendanner was named the PAC Coach of the Year. Sophomore guard
Brooke Evans was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Year, while
Makenna Maier (Second Team), and
Camdon Bashor (Honorable Mention) joined Evans (Honorable Mention) on the All-Conference team's.
In her first year with the Bearcats, Gissendanner led Saint Vincent to an impressive 21-7 overall record, including going 14-2 in PAC games, helping the Bearcats win the PAC regular season championship and earn the number one seed in the south division for the PAC Tournament. SVC eventually fell to W&J in the PAC Championship game last Saturday.
Despite it being her first year in the PAC, Gissendanner is no stranger to winning Coach of the Year awards. The veteran head coach earned the award at La Roche in five different seasons.The Bearcats 21 wins are the most for the program since the 2022-23 season. Saint Vincent defeated Westminster and Bethany to advance to their first PAC Championship game in three years.
Evans had an impressive sophomore year en route to earn the Defensive Player of the Year award and a place on the All-PAC Honorable Mention team. The sophomore guard ranked in the top-25 in the PAC in both blocked shots (22nd) and steals (15th) over the course of the season. Evans led the Bearcats with 49 steals during the season, while finishing second on the team with 13 blocks. She also averaged 7.9 PPG and 5 RPG to help earn her a spot on the honorable mention team. Evans scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds combined in the PAC semifinals and PAC championship game's.
Maier ended her Saint Vincent career on a strong note, earning the All-PAC Second Team honors. The senior forward led Saint Vincent, averaging 12.2 PPG, while also grabbing 5.7 RPG. Maier shot an impressive 47% from the field and led the PAC with a 43% FG percentage from the three point arc. Maier scored in double figures in 19 different games for SVC during the season, while scoring a season high 26 points in the Bearcats win against La Roche on December 19. Maier was also named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team.
Bashor ended her Bearcats career on a strong note as well. The senior forward was second on the team in both scoring (9.4 PPG) and rebounding (5 RPG) en route to her All-PAC Honorable Mention honor. Bashor scored in double figures in 14 different games for the Bearcats. She had her best game of the season in SVC's win against Bethany on December 1 when she recorded a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Bearcats.
