The Waynesburg Yellow Jackets built a double-digit lead in the second half and held on to defeat the Saint Vincent women's basketball team by a score of 59-53 in the Carey Center.

Brittany Sedlock set a new SVC record with 20 rebounds in the game, to go along with her team-high 13 points.

Waynesburg broke a 4-4 tie just over three minutes into the game and held the lead the remainder of the first half, as SVC struggled from the field.  Collectively, the Bearcats hit just one of nine shots from outside the arc, and just 11 of 35 overall (31.4%).  However, the team did cut a 7-point deficit (26-19) to just three at the half (28-25), thanks to a three-pointer from Emily Fenton, a free throw from Jordan Clinton and a score by Brittany Sedlock over the final three minutes.

Two straight scores by Devin McGrath started the second half on a promising note, as the Bearcats took a 29-28 advantage at the 17:40 mark.  After a Waynesburg score, Melissa Mansur then put SVC back in front by one, 31-30, with just under 17 minutes left to play.

However, it would be the team's final lead of the night, as the Jackets went on a five-point run to take a 35-31 lead.  Later, the visitors used a 10-point run over a three minute span to pull away, and SVC never recovered.  As a team, SVC shot just 22.9% in the second half (11-48), as the team continued to struggle offensively.

In addition to Sedlock's record-setting night, Saint Vincent was led on the scoresheet by Fenton, who chipped in 10 points, and McGrath, who added 8.  Ariel Rocco (photo) also played well, scoring 6 points and adding 6 rebounds in just eight minutes of action.  Savannah Hardy added six point in nine minutes for the Bearcats.

Hannah Hunter led all scorers in the game with 18 for the Jackets, while adding nine rebounds.  Brittany Spencer had a solid night, with 10 points and 18 rebounds.  Elaine Hasek added 13 points.

With the win, SVC drops to 4-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Waynesburg improves to 5-0.  SVC is 9-3 overall, and Waynesburg is now 10-2.  The teams will meet again in early February.

Up next for Saint Vincent is a matchup against Washington & Jefferson College in the Carey Center at 4PM on Saturday.
