Game Notes: Game Seven at W&J

GAME NOTES (.pdf)

GOING FOR TWO: Saint Vincent enters this week's match-up at Washington & Jefferson looking for its second-consecutive win against the Presidents. Last season on Homecoming in Latrobe, SVC pulled off the 35-27 upset behind four touchdowns on the ground.

SCORING DIFFERENCE: The Bearcats are 1-4 all-time against W&J, including 0-2 at Cameron Stadium. The Presidents have used an explosive offense in the series, out-scoring SVC, 223-80 (an average score of 44.6-16), in the five games. In the two losses in Washington, SVC has been out-scored 103-40, including a 72-20 thrashing in 2008.

HE DOES IT ALL: In last week's 30-22 loss to Geneva, freshman LB Renny Larue-Holloman continued his stellar rookie campaign by becoming the first player in the modern era at SVC to record double-digit tackles (11), force a fumble and intercept a pass. He also added 2.0 sacks, which ties a modern-era record that was last achieved by Mike Nadeau in 2008 against Westminster.

ONE MILESTONE DOWN, ONE TO GO: After already claiming the modern-day career receptions record, senior WR Ricky Douglas has his sights set on the modern-day receiving yards record. He enters play this week just 49 yards away from breaking the record set by former WR Sheldon Loughner.

STOPPED AT 24: Douglas saw his receptions streak stopped at 24 games against Geneva. Previously, the last time he did not record a catch in a game he played in was the 2010 season-opener against Bridgewater (Va.). The modern-day record is 26 games and is also held by Loughner.

WHO'S NEXT: The longest remaining reception streak is six games and is shared by sophomore WR Matt Duffey and freshman RB Ryan Crawford, the only Bearcats to record a reception in every game this season.

DUAL THREAT: Sophomore QB Andy Borgen led the Bearcats in rushing for the second-straight week. He finished with 78 yards on eight carries, highlighted by a 59-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that brought SVC within five points, 20-15. A week earlier against Thiel, the 6-1 playcaller scampered for 49 yards on nine carries. It marked the first time that a quarterback has led the team in rushing in back-to-back weeks during the modern era.

PIVOTAL RUN: Borgen set a couple of modern records with his performance last Saturday. His 59-yard touchdown run was the longest rush by a quarterback since the re-birth (also tied for the fifth longest run, regardless of position). He also amassed the largest amount of rushing yards by a quarterback (78) since pre-2007.

DON'T THROW IT HIS WAY: Sophomore CB Darius Brown eclipsed the modern-mark with his 18th pass defended against Geneva. He passes the record of 17 previously held by former DB Quillian Reid who achieved the feat in four season, compared to just 17 games for Brown.

ALMOST SIX: Larue-Holloman intercepted a pass in the second quarter at the Geneva 27-yard line and took it 24 yards to the Geneva three-yard line, just three yards shy of recording the first defensive touchdown since David Ribero's 38-yard interception return for a touchdown in last season's Green Game against Bethany.
