LATROBE (Oct. 9) - Waynesburg scored with 54 seconds remaining in regulation and with 3:25 remaining in overtime to complete the rally and defeat the Saint Vincent men's soccer team, 2-1, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on the SVC Turf.
With the loss, the Bearcats drop to 5-8-1 on the season and run their winless streak to seven games while also falling to 0-4 in PAC action. The Yellow Jackets pick up their first league victory of the season to improve to 1-1-1 and 6-5-1 overall.
The two teams played a scoreless first half with SVC holding an 8-3 advantage on shots.
In the 69th minute, junior
Luke D'Amico gave the Bearcats the lead when he buried the game's first goal on an assist by junior
Trevor Cutlip.
Senior goalkeeper
Clemente Mejia made several large saves to keep SVC in the lead before yielding the game-tying goal with 54 seconds remaining in regulation. Waynesburg then posted the game-winner in the 97th minute to squeeze out the conference victory.
Waynesburg just barely edged SVC on shots, 19-18, behind a combined 16 shots in the second half and overtime. Cutlip led the team with four shots (three on goal) while D'Amico and sophomore
Brody Ruffner posted three shots apiece.
Mejia suffered the loss, making seven saves in 96:35.
SVC returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m., hosting Bethany in Senior Day action within the PAC.
