CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Feb. 15) - Despite a career-high 26 points from senior forward
Brittany Sedlock, the Saint Vincent women's basketball team dropped a 68-59 decision at Thomas More in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 19-5 this season and 14-3 in PAC action. The Saints, meanwhile, capture the regular season PAC title and improve to 16-1 in league play, 20-4 overall.
TMC scored the first four points of the game before SVC put together a 7-0 to open up a 7-4 lead just under three minutes into the game. Junior guard
Melissa Mansur highlighted the run with five points, including a trifecta to open the Bearcats' scoring.
After a three pointer by freshman guard
Elle Collins made it 11-10 TMC with 14:11 remaining, the hosts went on a 12-0 run that spanned 2:44 and stretch the margin to 23-10 with 11:27 to play in the first half.
Another Collins three pointer stopped the run and propelled the Bearcats to an 11-2 run that put the cut the lead to four points, 25-21, with 5:28 remaining before the break. TMC outscored SVC, 5-4, over the final four minutes of the game to take a 30-25 lead into the locker room.
With the Bearcats down five points, 42-37, around the halfway point of the second half, Sedlock scored 12-consecutive points for SVC, but it wasn't enough as the Saints expanded their lead to 12 points, 55-43, with 5:21 to play.
The Bearcats hit three shots from beyond-the-arc over the final 1:38 of the game, but it was not enough to overtake the Saints, with the final score, 68-59.
Sedlock led all scorers with 26 points while Mansur added 12 points and Collins chipped in 11 points. Thomas More had four scorers in double figures, led by Allison Long's 18 points.
For the game, SVC shot just 33.8 percent (22-of-65) from the field and only 30.3 percent (10-of-33) from beyond-the-arc.
The Saints held a 45-33 edge in rebounding, while SVC forced TMC into 23 turnovers while committing just 15.
The Bearcats close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18, hosting Bethany at 4 p.m. in PAC action at the Carey Center.
