Bearcats post 21-13 win at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (Mar. 27) - Junior Nora Posival scored six goals to lead the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team to a 21-13 win against Wilson (Pa.).

With the win, the Bearcats improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Phoenix fall to 1-2.

Wilson scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead just 3:56 into play. Junior Megan Fisher answered back 16 seconds later to get SVC on the board, 2-1.

Another Wilson goal made it 3-1, but freshman Natalie Ambrozic and Posival scored goals a minute apart to knot the game at 3-3. Wilson took their last lead of the game, 4-3, at the 16:48-mark when Wilson's Jessica Menard scored her third of eight goals on the day.

Posival and Fisher combined to score the next four goals to give SVC the 7-4 lead with 8:23 to play in the first half. Menard scored two more goals for the Phoenix to cut the deficit to 7-6, but junior Hannah Hackman scored the final three goals of the first period to send the Bearcats into the half leading, 10-6.

SVC scored the first four goals of the second half as sophomore Blair Chesek scored 41 seconds into the half. Fisher added another tally at the 28:33 mark and sophomore Maggie Garvey scored two goals within 1:27 to put the Bearcats ahead, 14-6.

Hackman, Garvey and sophomore Kaley Burkardt each added goals before junior Carrie Brust scored her first career goal at the 11:47 mark of the second half. Posival finished the game with her fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the game to give SVC the 21-13 win.

Posival finished with a game-high nine points (six goals, three assists) while Hackman added seven points (four goals, three assists) and Fisher registered six points (four goals, two assists).

Freshman Michelle Mitchell made her first-career start in goal, earning the win while playing all 60 minutes. She made six saves and allowed all 13 goals.

The Bearcats are now idle until Wednesday, Apr. 11, when they travel to Meadville, Pa., for a 4 p.m. game against Allegheny.
