The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team posted a 19-15 victory over Methodist University on the road in North Carolina to start the season with its second straight win.
The game was tight in the early going, with goals by
Alyssa Lang,
Nora Posival and
Megan Fisher giving SVC a 3-2 lead just over 10 minutes into play. Methodist then fought back to score the game's next three goals, taking a 5-3 lead midway through the first half.
After Posival and Fisher each scored to tie the game, the hosts then went on another hot streak, scoring three goals within 90 seconds to take an 8-5 advantage with 8:01 left in the first half.
The Methodist lead later stretched to four, 11-7, before Saint Vincent scored three times in the final two minutes of the first half, with two goals from Lang and a score from
Molly Snyder making the score 11-10 at the break.
The Saint Vincent momentum carried over into the second half, with goals from Fisher and
Kaley Burkardt giving SVC a 12-11 lead, but once again Methodist came back and scored the game's next trio of goals to take a 14-12 lead with 21:50 remaining.
Scores by
Mary Wilcox and Snyder tied the game at 14, then a goal from Methodist's Hope Motahari gave the home team a 15-14 lead with 15:46 to go.
However, the Bearcats dominated the game's final 15 minutes, as Fisher tallied her fourth goal of the game to tie the score at the 14:31 mark, followed by two unanswered goals each from Burkardt and Posival to seal a 19-15 victory.
Fisher (4 goals, 1 assist), Posival (4-1) and Lang (3-2) led the attack with 5 points each, while Burkardt added four goals.
Jenn Forsyth stopped seven shots to earn the win in the net for Saint Vincent.
The team will return to action on March 14, hosting York College at 4PM on the Saint Vincent Turf.
