NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Mar. 7) - Three players scored a pair of goals, but the Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team was outscored 4-1 en route to a 9-6 loss at Christopher Newport (Va.).
With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 1-2 on the season and 0-2 in the state of Virginia to begin the campaign. The Captains even their record at 2-2 after losing a pair of games by a combined four goals.
The two teams played an even first quarter after freshman
Bryce Pasquariello tied the game, 1-1, with nine seconds left. Each team scored a pair of goals in the second quarter as senior
Will DeLanoy scored a man-up goal with 4:51 to go in the quarter to tie the game, 2-2.
The Bearcats again struck with nine seconds left in the quarter as junior
Anthony Altieri sent the teams into halftime tied, 3-3.
Christopher Newport started the second half with four-straight goals before Altieri put SVC on the board in the second half with his second goal of the game to make it a 7-4 game with 11 seconds to play in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, each team posted two goals with DeLanoy and Pasquariello adding their second goals of the game.
Senior
Mike Diggs led the team with six shots while Pasquariello added five shots and DeLanoy and Altieri posted three shots apiece.
Junior
Adam Gunter suffered the loss in goal, yielding all nine goals in 60 minutes of action. The junior made 17 saves in the loss.
The Bearcats return home on Saturday, Mar. 10, when they host York (Pa.) on the SVC Turf at 3 p.m.
