MEADVILLE, Pa. (Apr. 11) - The hosts jumped out to a 7-2 halftime lead en route to a 16-5 win as Allegheny downed the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team in Meadville.
With the defeat, the Bearcats fall to 4-3 these season after suffering their first road defeat of the year. The Gators improve to 7-5 on the season.
Allegheny got on the board 3:29 into the game, but junior
Megan Fisher tied it up, 1-1, 4:03 later on an assist by classmate
Nora Posival. After the Gators scored three-straight goals over the next 10 minutes, Posival found Fisher again to cut the deficit to 4-2 with 10:56 to play in the first half. Allegheny added three more goals to close out the half and take a 7-2 lead into the intermission.
The Gators opened up the second half with five goals in the first 17-plus minutes to stretch the lead to 12-2. Posival answered with a pair of unassisted goals two minutes apart (12:02 and 10:02) to cut the score to 12-4. After four goals by the hosts, freshman
Molly Snyder scored the final goal of the game (assisted by Fisher) with 1:07 remaining to make the final margin, 16-5.
For the game, the Gators out-shot the Bearcats, 38-13, and picked up seven more ground balls, 28-21. Fisher led the Bearcats with four shots junior
Hannah Hackman registered three shots. Sophomore
Maggie Garvey and Fisher each paced SVC with three ground balls apiece.
Senior goalie
Jenn Forsyth suffered the loss in goal, making five saves and allowing seven goals in 30 minutes of play. Freshman
Michelle Mitchell played the second half between the pipes, allowing nine goals and making five saves.
SVC returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 14, traveling to Wittenberg (Ohio) for a 2 p.m. game before heading to Otterbein (Ohio) the next day at 1 p.m.
