Franciscan ends SVC win streak

BOX SCORE

The Franciscan University Barons ended the SVC men's tennis team's nine-game win streak, downing the Bearcats 6-3 in Steubenville.

It was the first defeat in over a month for Saint Vincent.

The bottom of the Bearcat lineup performed well in the loss as they accounted for all three of Saint Vincent's points.  Nathan Walch won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at fifth singles while Chris Andrejcik prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at sixth singles.

Walch and Andrejcik teamed up at third doubles to win 8-4.  The dynamic duo were the only Bearcat players to win on the day.

Anthony Nemanic and Dan Chirdon were involved in tight matches in both doubles and singles.  At first doubles they overcame an early deficit and nearly squeaked out a win before finally losing 8-6.  At second singles Nemanic lost the first set in a tiebreak and the second set 7-5.  Chirdon also lost in two, tight competitive sets.

Despite the loss, the Bearcats performed well against an opponent that tested them in all phases of the game.  They are well prepared heading into the final - and most important - match of the regular season on Monday against Grove City.
