The Saint Vincent Bearcat men's tennis team improved to 5-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 9-0 victory over Thiel that was closer than the final score indicated.
It was the Bearcats' fourth conference win by shutout. Saint Vincent currently leads the PAC standings.
The only close doubles match was at the second position where
Sean Malone and
Tony Costantino overcame a 4-0 deficit and won 8-5. First doubles was an easier win for the Bearcats as
Dan Chirdon and
Anthony Nemanic cruised to an 8-2 win. The third doubles team of
Nathan Walch and
Chris Andrejcik lost only one game.
At first singles
Tony Costantino played a challenging match and outlasted his opponent to earn a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory. Standout senior
Dan Chirdon fought through a rare challenge from his opponent and closed out a straight set victory by winning 7-5 in a competitive second set. At third singles and sixth singles
Sean Malone and
Chris Andrejcik continued to breeze through their matches, losing only two games between them. At fifth singles
Nathan Walch made his much anticipated return to singles with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph.
At second singles
Anthony Nemanic faced his first challenge in PAC singles play. He fought through the first set, winning 7-5, before closing out the victory with a 6-2 win in the second set.
Saint Vincent's next match is at the Greensburg Racquet Club tomorrow against Washington & Jefferson College. After that the Bearcats have a week off before their next match.
