Bearcats add another conference win

BOX SCORE

The Saint Vincent men's tennis team continued its recent string of dominating performances by notching another 9-0 win against a Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent.

The latest victim was Washington & Jefferson College, and it was the Bearcats' fourth consecutive shutout win against a conference foe.

In a reversal of the normal order all the singles matches were contested before doubles were played.  After dropping the first set in his past two matches, Tony Costantino came out strong in the early going against the Presidents, winning the first set 6-2 before losing only one game in the second set.

The rest of the team also cruised to victory as Washington & Jefferson did not capture more than 3 games in any of the twelve sets contested.  The bottom of the Saint Vincent lineup was especially efficient as Dan Chirdon, Nathan Walch, and Chris Andrejcik lost only two games combined at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles.

At third doubles Nick Latterner subbed in for Nathan Walch.  The Bearcats' entrant for seventh man of the year came through again as he and Chris Andrejcik grabbed an 8-3 win.  The first and second doubles matches were also Bearcat victories and ended in identical 8-1 scores.

Saint Vincent enters Easter Break with a PAC-best 6-0 conference record.  The only conference opponent left for the Bearcats is the formidable Grove City Wolverines.  SVC also has two non-conference matches remaining against Pitt-Greensburg and Franciscan.
