LATROBE (Apr. 3) - Freshman Suzie Cool hit an RBI double in the eighth inning to drive in the game's lone run in a 1-0 win in the first game and junior Alyssa Grossman belted a walk-off pinch-hit RBI double to help the Bearcats post a 2-1 come-from-behind win in the nightcap against Geneva in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader.

With the sweep, the Saint Vincent softball team remains unbeaten in PAC action with a 4-0 mark while improving to 15-7 overall. Geneva drops to 14-12 on the season and evens their league record at 2-2.

After playing seven scoreless innings in the first game, sophomore Lindsey Daniels led off the top of the eighth with a single to left field. After an out on a failed sacrifice bunt, Cool stepped into the box and ripped a double to center field that scored Daniels and the game's only run.

Junior Emily Lauterbach earned the win in relief to improve to 4-1 on the year, tossing the final 2.0 innings and allowing just two hits with one strikeout. She relieved starter sophomore Ally Vrcek who threw the first 6.0 innings and yielded just two hits while allowing five walks and striking out four.

Both teams posted four hits in the first game with Cool posting a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Daniels and sophomore Becky Deane collected the other base knocks for the Bearcats.

In game two, Geneva scored its only run in the top of the sixth. After a one-out walk to the Golden Tornadoes' Marti Adams, she advanced to second on a ground-out and scored on an error. Lauterbach was able to get out of the inning allowing only one run. In the bottom of the sixth, Daniels hit a one-out double, but Geneva pitcher Julie DiLonardo was able to retire the next two Bearcats to keep the score, 1-0.

In the top of the seventh, Lauterbach started the inning with a lead-off walk, and the runner eventually advanced to third base following a sacrifice bunt and a ground-out, but the junior righty was able to get out of the inning by inducing a groundball to first baseman freshman Shannon Baczek.

Baczek led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and was removed for pinch-runner freshman Mikele Prokopovich. Vrcek, the designated player, advanced Prokopovich to second with a sacrifice bunt before junior Sam Shumaker launched an RBI double to the right-field fence to tie the game, 1-1. Sophomore Megan Regula then hit a pinch-hit line-out to first base before Grossman ripped her walk-off, pinch-hit double to the fence in left-center to end the game.

Lauterbach earned the win in the nightcap, going the distance and allowing just two hits and one run (unearned). She struck out two and walked two to improve to 5-1 on the season. In 40.0 innings this season, Lauterbach has given up just three runs and is yet to allow an earned run.

The Bearcats picked up eight hits, including four doubles, in the second game, led by Daniels' 3-for-3 performance. Daniels, Deane, Grossman and Shumaker all tallied doubles in the win.

The Bearcats continue PAC play on Thursday, Apr. 5, when they host Thiel at 1 p.m.
