FROSTBURG, Md. (Sept. 1) - A goal by sophomore
Michael Cerchione in overtime lifted the Bearcats to their first win of the season, a 3-2 victory over Buffalo State (N.Y.), in the consolation game of the Frostburg State Tournament.
With the win, the Saint Vincent soccer team improves to 1-1 on the season, while Buffalo State falls to 0-2 after losing to host Frostburg last night.
Buffalo State scored just 3:48 into the game to take an early lead when Cary Reifschneider scored with an assist to C.J. Scirto. SVC responded just over eight minutes later though when sophomore
Josue Cuadra posted his first goal as a Bearcat at the 11:54-mark.
The Bengals took a 2-1 lead into the half after posting a goal after 37:11 had elapsed in the game. Jake Reed was able to beat his defender in the box and sneak a shot past SVC goalkeeper senior
Clemente Mejia.

Elom Pedanou for the game-tying goal as Pedanou beat a defender and slipped it past Buffalo State keeper Ian Huntoon.
Cerchione recorded the game-winner with 1:38 remaining in overtime after his shot deflected off of Huntoon and found its way into the net.
For the game, SVC held a 10-6 edge on shots, while Buffalo State took an extra corner kick, 2-1.
Cerchione led all players with four shots (two on goal), while sophomore
Brody Ruffner and sophomore
Christian Trueax each posted a pair of shots on goal.
Mejia earned his second career win in next after spending last season as a midfielder. He made two saves in the victory.
The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, traveling to Huntingdon, Pa., to play Juniata at 4 p.m.
