LATROBE (Sept. 14) - Senior
Gage Arnold scored the golden goal with 3:58 remaining in double overtime as the Bearcats rallied from a 3-1 deficit to post a 4-3 win over La Roche in non-conference action on the SVC Turf.
With the win, the Saint Vincent men's soccer team runs its winning streak to four games with a 5-2 overall record, while also remaining unbeaten in overtime contests (3-0). La Roche falls to 1-4 on the season.
Arnold's double-overtime winner came in the 107th minute on a direct kick from just outside of the 18-yard line, for his second goal of the season. The direct kick came following a collision just outside of the goal box.
SVC fell behind 3-1 after La Roche scored two goals in a 6:33 span (58:02 and 64:35) to break a 1-1 first-half tie.
Sophomore
Brody Ruffner answered back just 1:38 after the Redhawks' third goal on an assist by classmate
Michael Cerchione to make it a 3-2 game. Just over 10 minutes later, SVC tied the game when Ruffner found sophomore
Daniel Moore who beat the La Roche keeper.
The Redhawks opened the scoring in the first half with a goal at 9:00, while junior
Luke D'Amico tied the game, 1-1, with a header off of a Ruffner corner kick for his first goal of the season.
For the game, La Roche out-shot SVC, 20-14, while the two teams took an equal number of corner kicks, 5-5.
Senior
Clemente Mejia earned the win, while making eight saves and allowing three goals in 106:02.
The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, hosting crosstown rival Pitt-Greensburg at 4 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
