LATROBE (Sept. 19) - Sophomore
Brody Ruffner tied the game in the 87th minute as the Saint Vincent men's soccer team rallied back to force overtime before tying Pitt-Greensburg, 1-1, on the SVC Turf.
With the draw, the Bearcats move to 5-2-1 on the season and extend their unbeaten streak to five games. UPG falls to 5-1-1 after previously going 3-1 against teams from the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
At the 86:19-mark, Ruffner scored his PAC-leading ninth goal of the season off of a cross by junior
Aaron Wilkinson who hit the ball from 35 yards out.
UPG took the lead in the 35th minute on a goal by Craig Macdonald that sent the Bobcats into halftime, and deep into the game, with the lead.
Defensively, SVC received strong performances from defenders junior
Luke D'Amico and Wilkinson. D'Amico was able to preserve the tie with a blocked shot in overtime that was headed for the net.
For the game, UPG out-shot SVC, 19-11, including 4-1 in overtime. The Bobcats also took more corner kicks, 6-2.
Sophomore
Robert Tokarski played the entire 110 minutes in his first start of the season, allowing one goal and making five saves in the draw.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 when they host Heidelberg (Ohio) on the SVC Turf at 3:30 p.m., in the penultimate game before PAC play starts.
