Dillon Stith poured in a career-high 29 points and guards
Chris Klimchock and
JC Howard combined for 39 points as the Bearcats downed Waynesburg, 80-67, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
With the win, the Bearcats improve to 12-5 overall this year and 7-1 in the PAC. The Yellow Jackets drop to 6-11 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.
With the score tied, 4-4, in the early stages, Saint Vincent embarked on a 21-0 run that lasted seven-plus minutes. Back-to-back triples by Klimchock and Howard began the run. Stith scored seven points over the span, and a fastbreak layup by sophomore forward
Sean Kett at 9:50 wrapped up the run leading 25-4.
Right after, Waynesburg embarked on its own run, 15-0, over nearly five minutes to get back in the game. Two Stith layups stopped the run at put SVC back up 10 points, 29-19.
After four-straight Waynesburg points, Stith scored three points before the Jackets recorded the final four points of the half to send the teams into the locker room with SVC ahead four points, 32-28.
The Yellow Jackets twice made it a two-point game in the first six minutes of the second period, but a Klimchock three-pointer started an 11-0 run that spanned 1:45. During the run, senior forward
Armani Fountain made two free throws, Kett recorded a three-point play, and Howard closed the run with a triple of his own.
Over the final 6:08, when Waynesburg cut the margin to 13 points, 64-51, the two teams traded scores the rest of the way for SVC to post the 80-67 final.
SVC finished 26-of-55 (47.3 percent) and made 88.0 percent (22-of-25) of its free-throw attempts. The Bearcats also held a seven-rebound advantage, 36-29.
Stith posted a game-high 29 points (on 11-of-16 from the field) and 11 rebounds, marking his first double-double of the season. Klimchock added 23 points, including three triples and a perfect eight-for-eight showing at the foul line, and Howard recorded a season-high 16 points, also with three three-pointers.
Waynesburg was led by Jason Propst and Jacob Fleegle who had 23 and 21 points, respectively.
Saint Vincent will be idle Saturday before returning to action on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when it hosts Washington & Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. in the Carey Center.
