LATROBE (Jan. 9) - The Saint Vincent women's basketball team had 11 different players score en route to a 70-32 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Geneva at the Carey Center.

With the win, the Bearcats improve to 10-4 on the season and 6-1 in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes drop to 0-7 in the league and 2-12 this year.

The 32 points allowed were the least allowed by Saint Vincent since surrendering 28 points to Houghton on Jan. 8, 2005.

With the score tied, 4-4, under three minutes in, the Bearcats embarked on a 21-2 run that lasted around 10 minutes and started with a layup by senior forward Devin McGrath at the 17:12-mark. A layup by junior forward Taylor Mathers capped the run at the 7:45-mark, and the span included six points from sophomore guard Ally Schmidt.

After Geneva scored at the 5:27-mark to make it 27-10, SVC used an 8-0 push to extend the lead to 35-10. A McGrath layup was sandwiched by a traditional three-point play by freshman guard Ashlee Darby and a three-pointer by sophomore guard Elle Collins.

The Golden Tornadoes scored the final four points of the half over the last 1:48 to send the two teams into the locker room with SVC ahead, 35-14.

The Bearcats began the second half with a 12-2 run that spanned the first five minutes of the period. Collins hit a trifecta just 12 seconds in to play and McGrath contributed a pair of jumpers before Collins drained her second triple of the run, then Mathers capped the spurt with a layup at 15:18, 47-16.

SVC built its lead as large as 43 points with 3:33 remaining on a three-pointer by Darby.

McGrath, the PAC Player of the Week and member of the D3hoops Team of the Week, finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Collins led all scorers with 12 points on four triples. Mathers finished with eight points and a season-high 10 rebounds.

Schmidt added eight points, five assists and four steals, with Darby contributing eight points off the bench.

For the game, the Bearcats shot 41.1 percent (30-of-73) from the field while holding Geneva under 25 percent (24.5 percent; 13-of-53). SVC also held a sizeable 58-27 edge in rebounding, with eight different players pulling in at least three boards.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 12, traveling to Crestview Hills, Ky., for a 1 p.m. tip-off against No. 11 Thomas More, who enters unbeaten (7-0) in the PAC.
