The Saint Vincent men's basketball team earned its first win of the season, defeating La Roche College on the road in Pittsburgh by a score of 71-59.
Â
Seniors
Isaac Turner and
Dillon Stith led the way, combining for 48 points, 24 each.
Â
The teams played evenly through the first 10 minutes, before a Stith bucket started a 9-point Bearcat run that gave SVC an 8-point lead, 24-16, with 7:20 remaining in the first half.Â
Â
Thanks in part to 15 first-half points by Stith, Saint Vincent maintained its lead, going into the break with a 35-26 advantage.
Â
Strong play from Stith and Turner was supported with inside play from
Tom Weremeychik and solid outside play from
JC Howard, as the Bearcats never allowed the lead to drop below five at any point.
Â
The Redhawks made the score 42-37 with just under 15 minutes left in the second, but a conventional three-point play by Turner, followed by a Turner three helped to rebuild the lead.
Â
Stith tallied 9 rebounds, while Howard added 8. Howard also scored in double figures, with 10.
Â
With the win, the Bearcats are now 1-1 on the season, and will host Penn State-Fayette on Monday night at 7PM in the home opener at the Carey Center.
