The Thomas More Saints scored 31 points in the first half, and neither team managed to add points in the second, as the visitors defeated Saint Vincent by a score of 31-0 at Chuck Noll Field.
The Saints scored on just their second play from scrimmage, as Jensen Gebhardt hit Ryan Winkler in stride on a long pass, and Winkler stepped the final few yards into the end zone to complete a 46-yard scoring strike, making it 7-0.
Later in the first, Thomas More took advantage of a Bearcat fumble, taking over at the Bearcat 37. After a strong defensive stand by SVC, the visitors were forced to kick a 30-yard field goal off the foot of Tommy Budke to take a 10-0 lead with 2:29 left in the first quarter.
After a punt by the Bearcats, the Gebhardt and Winkler connected again, this time on a 40-yard touchdown pass, making it 17-0.Â
The visitors struck again quickly, blocking a Bearcat punt and scoring on a 5-yard pass from Gebhardt to Cody Hinkel, making it 24-0 just five minutes into the second quarter.
Later in the second, after another blocked punt, Domonique Hayden scored on a 7-yard run to make it 31-0 with 3:14 remaining in the half.
Neither team would score the remainder of the afternoon.
Individually, Hayden led the Saints on the ground with 29 carries for 123 yards. Gebhardt was 13-for-23 for 178 yards and three touchdowns, while Winkler caught four passes for 88 yards.
For the Bearcats, Andy Borden and
Matt Duffey each had 27 yards rushing. Duffey's came on one play in the second half.
Duffey was also the leading receiver for SVC, with 5 catches for 26 yards. Borgen was 9-18 through the air for 41 yards, while
Matt Deakins came on in the fourth quarter and was 7-14 for 37 yards.
On the day, Thomas More had 351 total yards to SVC's 149.
Renny LaRue-Holloman anchored the defense for SVC with 13 tackles and an interception.Â
Taylor Hayes-Leak also had an interception, which he returned for 30 yards.Â
Mitchell DePellegrini had the lone SVC sack on the afternoon.
Thomas More is now 7-1 overall, 6-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. SVC remains winless at 0-8 (0-6 PAC).
SVC will travel to Grove City College next Saturday to face the Wolverines.
